GRAD SUNDAY 2019

Our High School graduates are on their way to the next thing in their lives. Congratulations to Cody and Aleisa for their great work so far and the congregation on Sunday gave our blessing and prayers for their continued success in the future.
2019 CRIBBAGE CHAMP
May 5th, 2019
Congratulations to Jon Howes, the 2019 Delano UMC Cribbage champion! Jon took the hard road to the top this year having to defeat fierce members of the Gilmer clan, many of whom are former champions - but he came out on top in a riveting match against Terry Tobeck on Sunday. His name will now be enshrined on the fancy-dancy cribbage champions trophy. For Terry, this marks his second year in a row as runner-up: better luck next year Terry!
Thank you to Sarah Hellmich and everyone who organized and participated this year!
April 4th, 2019
Members of DUMC are working at the Delano Helping Hands Food Shelf throughout April. The Foodshelf folks say we're the best volunteers in town (but we suspect she says that for all the churches!)
Thank you to everyone who gives of their time and treasure to make our local food shelf a success.
March 6th, 2019
Hundreds of sandwiches were made by members of the congregation for Simpson Shelter as part of our Ash Wednesday service.
Thanks to Connie for coordinating the event and for all the folks to come volunteer their time to help feed the hungry this Lent.
GIRL SCOUTS DOING GREAT THINGS!
February 26, 2019
Two of our enterprising Girl Scouts have completed their project to raise funds, build and stock a new shelving system for the Wright County Crisis Nursery. Outstanding job girls!
A big thank you to them for their commitment and work to better the community and a big thanks to the people of DUMC for supporting their work and helping to fund it through the January Can-Do offering!
PASTOR CHAD IS APPROVED
February 26, 2019
Chad's been officially appointed by the bishop to serve at Delano UMC. He's very excited and blessed to be here which is odd to say, since it is me writing this and talking about myself in the 3rd person. Thank you all for the opportunity to be a part of your community!
MAGIC SHOW BIG HIT!
January 13th, 2019
A big crowd of kids and kids-at-heart were on hand at Delano UMC to see Brian Richards Winter Wonder Magic Show. It was a great time, especially for all the kids - many of whom were on stage to help Brian with his act. Cocoa and snacks were held afterward.
Pictures compliments of Garry Hellmich - see more of his work here.
SIMPONS SHELTER TRIP
December 28th, 2018
A group of DUMC'ers recently made a whole pile of sandwiches and prepared other food for a trip to the Simpson Shelter in Minneapolis. Thank you all for the ways you are helping spread love (and food!) in the world. If you missed out on this trip, more are coming - keep an eye out to 'coming events' in the church news for details.
December 16th, 2018
It was a beautiful afternoon of music and fellowship at Delano UMC last Sunday. The Christmas Cantata filled the sanctuary with classic carols and the fellowship hall with great conversation and homemade cookies! A huge thank you to Cathy and the choir for all their work in creating this lovely afternoon of prayerful song!
A large crowd was on hand to witness the children's Christmas Program this year. A number of children gifted us with their musical talents and all of them were in great form for the classic telling of the Greatest Story Ever Told.
O Christmas Tea, O Christmas Tea... A lovely afternoon of tea, snacks, prayer and conversation was had by all on Thursday afternoon at the church. See more photos of the event here!
THANKSGIVING ECUMENICAL SERVICE
November 18th, 2018
Delano UMC was excited to host the 2018 Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service and we had almost 200 people show up from various congregations in the area to give thanks together as one body of Christ. On top of the wonderful fellowship, over $700 was raised for Love INC! Thank you to all the volunteers who contributed to a great evening of music and worship and soup!
November 11th, 2018
Over 115 people showed up for Ham Dinner Sunday and had some seriously good eats and good fellowship. Thank you "Hannah" for coordinating another lovely meal for the whole church family! Thank you to all the volunteers that make these sorts of events possible!
ALL SAINTS SUNDAY
November 4th, 2018
All Saints Sunday was a beautiful worship experience where we remembered those loved ones who left us this year and in years past. Pastor Stina's sermon was on the death of Sarah and how decisions we make, even in our grief when our lives seem unfulfilled, are used by God.
The Pillows and Pies event was put on by the Mission: Possible team this last Saturday (Nov 3rd) and was a great success. Some 80 pillows were cleaned, pies and knitted hats were sold throughout the morning. At the end of the day, including some extra pie sales the Sunday after, we raised $850 for Mercy Ships.
Trunk or Treat 2018 was another big success! 18 "Trunkers" came with decorated car trunks and buckets of candy and over 500 people from the local community turned up with spooky costumes to trick-or-treat, play games and drink some hot cocoa on a (windy!) Sunday afternoon. A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers and fun lovers that made the event possible!
We celebrated the commitment to a life of faith of four extraordinary young men and women on Confirmation Sunday 2018.
Many family members were on hand to witness, pray over and bless the the lives of these young people as they grow in the life of the church and in their faith. Then we had cupcakes and they were good too.
Rally Sunday has come and gone and what a morning it was! Over 130 people attended our Rally Day breakfast and worship service. The service kicked off our 'Beginnings' sermon series that will lead us through the book of Genesis this fall.
The revamped play area outside was a big hit with the kids. The new Gaga Ball pit was busy all morning along with the new chest of balls and frisbees and other toys. Over 30 kids of all ages participated in Sunday School and had a blast!
EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT COMPLETE!
August 31st, 2018
Earl Dennis of Delano Troop 273 has completed his Eagle Scout Project for the church. A new Gaga Ball pit has been installed, four square court painted up and a welcome refresh of our playground mulch. This project, along with a revamped toy chest has made our play area top notch!
Thank you to everyone who contributed. It was a huge success!
